About this item

Raffia, not strawRaffia palm fibre carries its own natural resin — supple and durable where ordinary straw dries out and snaps.
Three sizes, one silhouetteSmall for errands, medium for every day, large for the beach weekend — the same hand-braided body at your scale.
Braided before it's wovenFibres are split by hand, evened into cords and plaited into braids — then woven and sewn round by round into the bucket.
Marks of the handA stray fibre or a shifted stitch is the signature of a hand-braided bag — trim a loose end and carry on.

Care
Raffia's natural resin does most of the caring for you — the fibre stays supple without conditioners or sprays. Keep it out of soaking rain (blot and shade-dry if caught), rest it stuffed between heavy days so the bucket keeps its round, and snip any stray fibre flush with small scissors — that's normal for a hand-braided bag, not damage. Tone varies slightly strand to strand and mellows in the sun; both are the fibre being itself.

HAND-BRAIDED RAFFIA
The Taormina Raffia Tote

Summer is packed away, but the bag stays out.

It did the whole season — market mornings, two ferries, a sunburnt paperback — and the braid has only settled tighter. Salt air never bothered the resin-rich fibre; neither did being dropped in the sand. Now it leans against the chair with the errand list tucked inside, ready for whatever September wants to be.

Good raffia doesn't retire in autumn. It just switches coasts for cities.

stray fibres at first

a few little ends poked out the first week. snipped them like the care note says and its been tidy since. part of handmade i guess but worth knowing.

Exactly right, and thanks for reading the care note before worrying. A stray end or two is the braid settling in. Trim flush, never pull, and it stays tidy.

black striped webbing detail

the strap stripe against the black raffia is sharp. everything about it reads intentional

Grassy smell out of the bag.

medium is the sweet spot

big enough for a cardigan and lunch, not so big i look like im moving house. the strap plus handles combo is properly useful. the two short handles tuck away when im using the strap, no dangling.

grey small for the win

Holds shape empty

Stands round on its own, doesnt slump. That alone puts it above every straw bag ive owned.
