The Florence Tote

You'll keep it by the door for the days you're running late.

On Tuesday it goes to the office — laptop in, a paperback along the side, the small inside pouch holding your card and key. By Friday it changes with what you put in it: a sweater, a swimsuit, the towel rolled tight. By the time you're driving up the coast, it is doing a different job from the bag you carried into the meeting — and that is the point. The colour moves between honey and oat from strand to strand. Small variations are part of a bag made from natural raffia and braided by hand, not defects to hide.

Lovely, handles run a bit long

Genuinely beautiful raffia and the colour is warm in person. The handles are on the longer side so on me it sits low on the shoulder. Hand carry it looks perfect. Minor.

You can actually see the hand work

I kept turning this over at a cafe looking at the weave because no two sections are quite the same, you can tell a person braided it not a machine. It is properly dense real raffia, not the loose papery stuff that sheds all over your car. I have used it for the market, a beach day and as a everyday tote for about a month and it has held its shape and not loosened anywhere. It honestly looks far more expensive than it was, a friend assumed it was a designer one. The only reason I am not surprised is the price felt fair for what it clearly is.
